コウモリ (The Bat)

テネシーではコウモリをよく見かけます。コウモリは夏に出てくる昆虫を食べます。洞窟と豊富な昆虫がコウモリの個体数を増やしています。 今、夏には少ない害虫がいます。だから、私はコウモリが好きです!先週、家の前でコウモリを見つけました。これは、約20センチ幅です。あいにく、生きていませんでした。

In Tennessee, I see bats very often. Here, there are many caves. Caves and abundant insects makes the bat population grow. Now, there are fewer biting insects in the summertime. For this reason, I like bats! Last week, I found a bat in front of the house. This one is about 200 cm wide. Unfortunately, it was not alive.

I originally used the kanji 蝙蝠 for コウモリ, but to my surprise many of my friends did not know the kanji! Not all kanjis are recognizable to most people. It is important to find out which words typically use kanji and which use hiragana and katakana.
